The Fairlight Platinum ReFill is made with and for Reason 6. It contains over 900 Combinator patches, over 1100 NNXT patches and loads of ReDrum kits, Subtractor, Malström & Thor patches, Kong kits and much more; in total over 3,340 patches.
The legendary Fairlight CMI IIx factory disc sound library is included in its entity, painstakingly sampled from a vintage IIx during 2 years of hard editing and programming work, with each loop having exactly the same looping points as the Fairlight.
The refill also contains many other legendary and sought after hardware instruments. Multisamples and also multi velocity layers of samples co-exist with the Fairlight tones, creating an extreme palette of sounds. This is also combined in unique Combinator patches, where all Combinator buttons and knobs are assigned in every patch.
The library uses 3 Gb of data (before packing) including over 5,000 individual samples. The Fairlight Platinum refill is like a complete library of the past history of 40 years of electronic instrument development, including not only just about all drum machines ever made, lots of unique analog and digital synthesizers but also the ultra rare Fairlight CMI, famously used by Pet Shop Boys, Art Of Noise, Peter Gabriel, Yazoo (Yaz) and many, many others during the 80s.
Modern Reason programming ensures a rich mix between classic and futuristic sounds. As a few examples, there are well over 400 intricate and deep pad sounds, orchestra hits, sound effects and no less than over 450 bass sounds as well as over 150 drum kits.
The Fairlight library is used with kind permission from Peter Vogel, founder of the CMI and of Fairlight Instruments in Australia.

I have Fairlight CMI Legacy II that worked fine in Reason 5. I have upgraded to Reason 6 and am getting a “Bad Format” error message when I try to create a Fairlight instrument. How do I upgrade?

Hi there John!
When does that message occur? It should work. By visiting the XXL and Platinum pages here you can upgrade to either one of those. Thanks for reporting in!
Best
Patrick

Greetings,
Around April I purchased your Fairlight CMI Legacy MKII+ refill & eventually received a Fairlight CMI Legacy EIII bonus… Needless to say, the sounds are great & very inspirational! Since then, this site has been re-vamped & it seems the refills have different name & pricing schemes… I would like to upgrade to “Platinum” but wasn’t quite sure whether I upgrade from XXL or older version?? At the time of my purchase I paid $95… Happy New Year & Thanx in advance!

Hi there!
It is OK for 2010 II+ customers to order the “from XXL” update, so it’s just an additional $39 and you will get many many new sounds.
Best,
Patrick

I ordered the XXL 40th anniversary special in October 2011, should I use the $69 upgrade or the $40?
I am running Reason 6.
Thank you…

I was one of the early USA beta-testers of Reason and have loved using it ever since. Once Record came out, I was EAGER to stop using DECK and be 100% Reason based. I’ve been looking for a new flavor.. one person suggested the OmniSphere but I’m just HONESTLY not impressed.. I’m going to be 42, I remember the Fairlight from Mannheim Steamroller and always loved the sounds they produced. Will the Platinum (since I have Reason 6) offer up those classic Steamroller type flutes, orchestral sounds etc?
I started at the $69.00 price tag for the Refill option.. then as I’m reading.. and the price rose.. now I’m up to $119 for Plaatinum… so I have to ask.. is there a FULL LIST of what I get? You can email me off-line if you have it.. but honestly, before I pull the trigger, and probably become a fan, like everyone else.. I just like to know what i’m buying.. so I’ll know i’m not repeating some of the sounds. I have an personal sample library that i’ve been building the last decade… Thanks for the info.

Thank you very much Geoffrey!
Fairlight Platinum should be a good contender to Omnisphere and other large libraries / plugs out there, yes. It contains all Fairlight IIx presets as well as loads of other instruments that I thought were cool / great sounding / ubiquitous for the context being “a classy studio from back in the days which had a Fairlight”; they also used to have a stack of other synths, drum machines etc. There is a full list of what you get on the Fairlight Platinum page. Check “see the patch list here”. There is plenty to discover and the refills are not just sample libraries, they also have lot and lots of Combinator programming utilizing Subtractors, Thors, Malströms and effects as well. I am sure you will be 1) overwhelmed and 2) mighty impressed by the refill if you take the plunge.
Best,
patrick
