The Fairlight CMI was the world’s first keyboard-oriented instrument with sampling. It cost $26,000 (Australian dollars) and loaded its sounds with 8 inch disks. As you may or may not know, the entire Fairlight sound library has been carefully sampled and converted into a Reason refill (available from this site) called Fairlight CMI Legacy. There has been four updates to the refill and the latest version is now obtained by getting Fairlight CMI Legacy and Fairlight CMI Supremacy version 1.4. Practically, the way to use these refills is to use Supremacy to browse for all the sounds. There is also a free demo version available; go to PowerFX and download Supremacy 1.2 from their site. It contains free demo banks, including samples.
